We are in the midst of summer weddings, and we are loving all of the fresh produce, delicious summer specialties, and unique seasonal surprises.

If you are planning a summer wedding, take a look at these 5 tips for creating the perfect summer wedding menu from Catering by Seasons.

1. Stay fresh

Take advantage of all the colorful produce available during the summer and delight your guests with fresh local tastes. Pair locally-grown produce like tomatoes and peppers with fresh seafoods and meats. For weddings, we love stations – a raw bar with oysters and shrimp or a build-your-own tacos bar with delicious grilled mahi and seared steak.

2. Chill out

Consider chilled gazpacho soup shots and signature cocktails to cool off on a hot day. Or take a fresh salad and garnish with a colorful summer terrine.

For dessert, pick some of your summer favorites, like a classic style ice cream cart with summer sundaes or chilled cheesecake pops – yum!

3. Something old, something new

Pair your long-time favorite dishes that are sure to be a hit with innovative new creations that will definitely impress.

For instance, we love how Ruby and Steven wanted to feature her grandmother’s chicken recipe into their fall wedding at Woodend Sanctuary. To mix things up, they also chose fun hors d’oeuvre for the cocktail hour.

4. All about you

What kinds of food do you love? What is it that you love about summer? Whether you want to incorporate local dishes or far-off favorites, we want to craft your wedding menu around the things you love. Many couples opt to pair local flavors and new favorites with the feel of a home-cooked meal.

5. Less is more

If you are getting married on a hot summer day, light hors d’oeuvre and a refreshing main course will make you feel better than heavier, hot foods. For appetizers, we love the Mediterranean mezze station, featuring vegetarian favorites like hummus and toasted pita bread, minted feta cheese, and stuffed grape leaves. Passed hors d’oeuvre like our short rib tacos and caprese skewers are filling, without being too much. For the main course, we love grilled meats topped with a light fruit salsa.
